This is an object lesson using a Compact Disk to help you teach the children that God will give you courage to do what’s right. The suggested Bible verse to reinforce the teaching is Matthew 5:16.

Lesson:

Show the CD. A CD starts out blank and something (either a picture, song, or other computer file) is copied to it. What you put on it is what you get back out. If you put a song on it, you’ll get a song out when you play it. You won’t get a computer game out of a CD you put music on.

Some of these disks are now re-writable. That means if you change your mind about what you want on it, you can write over it. Compact Discs also have a circle in the center that helps make it easier to store them in cases and helps them run properly in your computer.

Your mind works in a manner similar to what I described with the compact disc. What you allow your mind to dwell on (what you put in it) is what eventually comes out in your life. If you focus on God’s Word, listen to Christian music, think kind thoughts about others, etc., you will become more and more like Jesus. If you listen to ungodly music, watch wrong TV programs and movies, think wrong thoughts, etc., you will find yourself sinning more and more.

The CD has a circle in the center. A circle is used to represent God. It has no beginning or ending just as God has no beginning or ending. If you keep God as the center of your life and do the things you know that please him, you will draw closer to him and have his peace and blessing.

God’s Word tells us in Matthew 5:16 that God wants you to let your light shine so that others may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. In order to consistently let your light shine (do those things which please God), you have to focus on the things that will help you, like reading and obeying the Bible, listening to Christian music, thinking right thoughts, going to church and Sunday School. etc.

As you consistently do the things that please God, it’s like programming yourself to do right. Also, as you spend time with God and in God’s word, you will find that not only will you want to do what is right, but God will give you the courage to do it as well!
